Miscreants loot gold ornaments and cash

GAURISAGAR, June 21: Unidentified miscreants looted gold ornaments worth Rs 6 lakh and cash from the house of Muhi Kanta Das, a teacher and a resident of Gaurisagar Namdang stone bridge under Joysagar Police outpost in Sivasagar on Tuesday evening. The miscreants broke the two locks of the main gate and entered the house and thereafter destroyed the keys of the Godrej almirah and looted gold ornaments and cash. There was no one in the house as Muhi Kanta Das had gone to Dibrugarh University for his daughter’s admission.

When the family returned and found out that their house had been looted, they informed Joysagar police outpost. Joysagar Police rushed to the spot and picked up Biswajit Kayastha, Janmoni Borah and Surajit Sarkar, employees of Bharati Airtel who were tenants since the last two years, for interrogation. On the other hand, police held Debarat Das, organizing secretary of AASU Sivasagar District Committee, for altercation with police against the rise in theft and robbery cases in Gaurisagar and its adjoining areas. He was later released.
