HAFLONG, April 11: Unidentified miscreants allegedly burnt down one autorickshaw and one brand new scooty in last night at Lower Haflong Railway colony here. The incident took place at around 2 am when the inmates of the Railway quarter were in sleep. Hearing the sound at around 2.15 am, the they came out and saw the autorickshaw and scooty were burning. This incident has created a sense of insecurity among the residents of railway colony as the colony is not being provided with proper security. It is learnt that there are some Bungalows of British Era, which are considered as the heritage building are also under the threats of miscreants since there were no arrangement of proper security for these huge railway properties at Lower Haflong. The century old railway colony at Lower Haflong was having more than hundred quarters belonging to N F Railway but following the conversion of MG to BG all the staffs have been shifted to new places vacating these quarters as a result of which some miscreants taking the advantage of lack of security made entire area den for their nefarious activities. The people of Dima Hasao and the members of Heritage Buildings and Monuments Preservation Committee fervently appealed to the railway authority to provide proper security at Lower Haflong and to protect and preserve these heritage buildings and sites.
