Missing Manipuri rifleman found on Mumbai streets after 40 years; All thanks to YouTube!

Forty years after 66 year-old Khomdom Gambhir went missing, he was re-united with his family in Manipur, thanks to his love for Hindi movie songs and a video of his that went viral on YouTube. Once a rifleman of Manipur Rifles, he left home in 1978 when he was mere 26 years old. His family in Imphal's west district didn't know where he was until they spotted a video of him on YouTube.

Gambhir got separated from his wife just three months after marriage and then left his home without informing anyone.

Gambhir's story recently went viral when political activist Angellica Aribam shared his picture with Mumbai Police. Another person named Atom Samarendra helped Mumbai Police get in touch with Gambhir's family by sharing his phone number with the police.

Residents of Khumbong Mamang Leikai village along with Lok Sabha MP Dr. Th Meinya and local MLA Dr.Sapam Ranjan gave a thunderous welcome to Gambhir with garlands at Imphal Airport. Residents held placards that read "Thank You Mumbai police, Thank you Manipur police" and "Thank you YouTube, Thank you WhatsApp."

Gambhir while addressing the media said, "I am very happy to see such a warm welcome. Now, I will try to live here and earn a living."
