GOALPARA, Aug 1: West Goalpara MLA Abdur Rasid Mondal on Tuesday and Wednesday attended a series of meetings in his constituency and allayed the fear of the people whose names had not been included in the final draft NRC, saying that they would certainly get several other chances to prove their citizenship and for inclusion in the final list. On Tuesday, a meeting was arranged at Boguan and on Wednesday similar meetings were held at Nidanpur and Bapurvita.

Referring to the Supreme Court of India as well as the Union Home Minister, he gave assurance that names of genuine Indian citizens would be included at any cost. He requested people not to panic.

Besides, he promised legal support through the party’s legal cell for those genuine Indian citizens whose names had been left out in the list. “As this is not the final draft and people will get chance to prove their claims and objections, there is no question of becoming restless,” he said. “The Congress will be with the people till the inclusion of the last Indian man’s name,” he asserted. The administration has remained tight-lipped about the inclusion of the exact number of citizens in the second list even after its publication.
