MLAs may figure in Congress' first list

SHILLONG, Jan 22: The Congress may me its MLAs who have understanding with the party on their candidatures for the State Assembly poll in its first list. However, the party is going to me candidates in a few other constituencies where there are more than one ticket aspirant in its second list.
According to sources, the Congress’ state election committee headed by Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Dr Celestine Lyngdoh is going to meet on Tuesday to discuss issues related to party candidates for the Assembly election with ticket aspirants. Members of the party’s state election committee include Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, Shillong MP Vincent H. Pala, MPCC adviser D.D. Lapang, among others.
“After the party’s election committee reviews the candidates applying a party tickets, the mes will be forwarded to the Screening Committee of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) before announcing the mes of candidates,” sources said. 
The screening committee headed by AICC president Rahul Gandhi has Dr Celestine Lyngdoh and Dr Mukul Sangma as members.
The second list of candidates may also include independent MLAs who are going to resign as legislators and join the Congress in the next few weeks.
