MLAs, Ministers to enjoy salary & perks hike

GUWAHATI, May 22: At a time when skyrocketing price rise of all essential commodities have left the common people high and dry in the State, the peoples’ representatives have reasons to cheer for substantial hike in their salaries, perks and other allowances.

With the Assembly has already passed three Bills proposing substantial hike in salaries of Chief Minister, ministers, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, MLAs and leader of the Opposition, these public representatives are set to receive their enhanced salaries, perks and other allowances with effect from April 1, 2018. Gross salaries of MLAs and ministers will be Rs 1, 60,000 and Rs 1, 80,000 respectively. Going by the development, the public representatives unlikely to feel to pinch of the ongoing skyrocketing prices of essential commodities including petrol and diesel.

Adding more cheers the Committee on Members Amenities and Facilities of Assam Assembly headed by BJP MLA Prasanta Phukan on Tuesday held a meeting and approved fuel allowance of MLAs from Rs 8 per litre and Rs 15 per litre.
