M'laya BJP to celebrate I-Day with 15-day programme

SHILLONG, Aug 13: The Meghalaya unit of the BJP is organizing a fortnight long programme to celebrate Independence Day. The celebrations which kick started on August 9 will conclude on August 23.

On August 15-Independence Day, a “Tiranga Yatra” will start from party office, Lachaumiere, Shillong at 8 am via State Central Library to the BJP’s new office site at Oakland Bivar road.

The state unit of BJP also said that to mark the occasion, every district/mandal of the party will be hoisting the tiol flag in their respective office premises.

On August 16, the BJP will hoist the tiol flag at Nongkhlaw (birth place of U Tirot Sing Syiem), West Khasi Hills. This will be followed by Khasi patriotic cultural programme.

Doner minister Jitendra Singh will be addressing the gathering and hand over the synopsis to the families of U Tirot Sing Syiem. He will be paying floral tribute to the statue of U Tirot Sing Syiem.

On August 18, the State BJP Mahila Morcha will be visiting Indo-Bangla border of Meghalaya for Raksha Bandhan in gratitude of the soldiers who guard the country’s border 24 X 7.

On August 20, tribute will be paid to U Woh Kiang ng Bah’s statue at Syntu Ksiar, Jowai.

Meanwhile on the concluding day August 23 movies related to India’s freedom struggle will be shown at Khyndai Lad Shillong.

Earlier on August 9, to mark India’s 70 Independence Day, BJP members organized “yaad karo kurbani” (remember the sacrifices) wherein all the office bearers of state committee lighted candles followed by discussion on the country’s freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the motherland.

On August 10, tribute was paid to Pa Togan Nengminza Sangma, in Chisobibra, Tura.
