MLCU conducts workshop on Life Skills

SHILLONG, Feb 8: “With so much taboo on topics relating to sex and sexual activities and also the rise of sexual abuse in the country, it has become apparent that the youth not only need se education but also Life Skills education,” this was asserted by the founder of Enfold Proactive Health Trust, Bangalore, Sangeeta Sakse during the iugural function of the workshop on “Training of Trainers Workshop on Reproductive Health and Life Skills Education for Youth”, which was held today at the campus of Martin Luther Christian University.

The ten day workshop is being organized by Martin Luther Christian University in collaboration with the North East Network (NEN) and it is being sponsored by the Meghalaya government under the Chief Minister’s fund (VAF 2011-12).

The function was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of the East Khasi Hills district, Peter S Dkhar as the chief guest of the occasion accompanied by the Vice Chancellor of MLCU, RG Lyngdoh and a host of dignitaries.

During his address Dkhar congratulated the University on taking the initiative to organizes such a workshop which will be beneficial to the faculty and counselors who work with the youth in the city in dealing with understand their sexuality and protect themselves from unwanted pregncies, HIV/AIDS and STDs, helping them build better relationships, improving their self image, and how to assert themselves in day to day life.
