MMB chairman urges young generation to take up agriculture, avail benefits

MANGALDAI, July 16: “The agricultural farmers living in the rural areas of Assam are the backbone of the State and the agricultural farmers should come forward to avail the assistances and benefits offered by the Agriculture department in transforming the economy of the State. It is very unfortute that the young generation of our society is not interested in the agricultural sector, rather they are running after jobs,” said chairman of Mangaldai Municipality Board (MMB), Pratap Bardaloi while taking part in a mini oil mill distribution function organized by the District Agriculture Department at the office of the District Agriculture Officer here on Thursday.

 The function was arranged as a part of mini oil mill distribution among beneficiaries under ‘Increasing Capacity Development for processing of Oil Seed’. The civic body chairman also urged the Agriculture Department as well as the State Government to adopt special policies to attract the younger generation towards the agriculture sector. Taking part in the function, District Agriculture Officer Bhagawan Chandra Bharali explained in details about the initiatives taken by the Agriculture Department for offering various machineries, seeds, fertilizers and guidance to the farmers of the district. In the function anchored by Agriculture Officer Nila Kanta Deka, District Information & Public Relations Officer Samar Kalita and media person Bhargab Kumar Das also took part in the function as invited guests.

In the function, a total numbers of 35 Mini Oil Mills were offered to 35 self-help groups and Pothar Parichalo Samiti of the district. Besides, 190 vermin beds, four multipurpose pulverisers, four Power Operated Paddy Thrasher and two maize shellers were also distributed among women self-help groups of the district under Women Welfare Schemes as Gender Responsive Budget 2014-2015 by the District Agriculture Department.
