Silchar, Sept 11: The brutal killing of a 25 year old person, Rinku Das, by an angry mob at Kathal road of this town in the wee hours of Sunday has raised many eyebrows regarding the safety and security of the residents of this town. Rinku Das, an inhabitant of Rangamati, Karimganj, was staying in Itkhola, Silchar at the residence of Sarif Ali. “As of now, we have come to know his me. We have not been able to contact his parents. We are yet to contact his parents or guardians. He told his me and address before succumbing to his injuries at Silchar Medical College and Hospital,” said Akhilesh Kumar Singh, DIG, Southern Assam, at a press-meet held at Circuit House of this town last evening.

Four persons have been arrested in the lynching case, Alim Uddin Laskar (30), Kalam Uddin Laskar (38), Asan Uddin Laskar (28), residents of Chandrapur, Kathal road and Ashim Kumar Sinha (50) who is a resident of Bhagatpur. Tension related to the reported incidents of a gang of people barging into houses for stching NRC and other valuable documents is ever growing. People are spending sleepless nights and guarding their localities at night. Rakesh Roushan, IPS, Superintendent of Police and the newly appointed Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Dr S Lakshman assured that whoever tries to disturb social harmony would be taken to task.

“No one should spread rumours in social media, or else all sorts of strict actions will be taken against him or her. A special cell has been formed to monitor social media. Anybody found uploading or posting objectioble items will be brought to book,” said SP Rakesh Roushan. Dr S Lakshman said these rumours have led to a very uneasy situation. “It is wrong to beat or kill a person. If anyone is found to be of suspicious ture, it should be reported to the Police,” he added.
