Mock drill on fire and emergency rescue in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, March 15: An emergency response mock drill was conducted by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Habrubari in Kokrajhar recently to bring awareness among the people about fire accidents. The drill was part of offsite emergency mock on the IOCL Guwahati-Siliguri underground pipeline to test preparedness of its emergency personnel.

A live fire fighting exercise was also carried out alongside the drill by Fire and Rescue Services personnel. The mock drill started with hooting of the emergency siren. All the officials and IOCL employees were seen rushing to the spot and they combated the fire. The fire combat team also joined and the fire was brought under control after 40 minutes. The clear sigl and siren was blown. Thereafter, the combating teams, rescue teams and auxiliary teams reported to Chief Emergency Controller cum location in-charge and reported that there were no causalities.

The emergency team made a demonstration on pipeline leak arrest, fitting of leak clamp and usage of extinguishers such as dry chemical powder during the drill. A fire control demonstration was carried out by Fire and Rescue Services personnel.

Attending the programme, Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner MP Sarma stressed the importance of coordition between the district administrations, fire and rescue services, local village administration and IOCL in handling emergency situations. Ajit Mohan Das, operation mager IOCL and other senior officials were present.
