Mohilary appeals for peaceful coexistence on R–Day

KOKRAJHAR, January 28: Along with the rest of the country, the 66th Republic Day was celebrated in Kokrajhar with patriotic fervor on Monday. The Chief of BTC, Hagrma Mohilary hoisted the tiol tricolor at the celebration venue at Government HS and MP School playground.

Mohilary inspected the guard of honour presented by the arms personnel, NCC and schools students. He also garlanded the tiol martyrs at the martyrs’ tomb. In his deliberation, he said the recent inhuman killings in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur had brought hatred among the people but it did not turn commul because the Bodos and Adivasis exercised restraint realizing that the act was done by a section of militant group which could never represent a community. He said his council had taken all initiatives for the rehabilitation of the displaced people, besides extending logistic support to the affected families.

On the development aspect, Mohilary said his council had been working for the rapid development of the region. He said his council laid stress on higher education and so far the council had built a full–fledged university, CIT, Engineering College, Medical College, Nursing College, Nursing Training Centre and other training institutes. He said the TET qualified teachers and teachers who had been working on fixed pay basis had been appointed. He said roads, bridges and other infrastructure were being constructed to develop connectivity.  Mohilary called upon the people to ensure peaceful co–existence and to extend help for rapid economic growth and development of the region.

On the occasion of celebration of Republic Day, sports persolities like Durga Boro and Holicharan rzary, Laimwn Borgoyary and Raju Newar were felicitated. Former Rajya Sabha MP UG Brahma, Sahitya Akademi award winner, noted litterateurs Arun Kr. Borgoyary, Subal Mahanta and Khausala Brahma were also felicitated.

On the other hand, the 66th Republic Day was also celebrated by the CISF Unit of Bongaigaon Thermal Power Project (BgTPP)/NTPC at Salakati in Kokrajhar district. The programme was marked with the hoisting of tiol flag at Unit Quarter Guard, March Past by CISF security and fire wing at parade ground, one minute drill demonstration, VIP security demonstration, weapon handling by one hand and closed eyes, cultural programme by CISF children and fire demonstration by CISF fire wing.
