Mohilary files defamation suit against AIUDF legislator

KOKRAJHAR, February 19: BTC Chief and BPF president Hagrama Mohilary today filed a crimil defamation case against the AIUDF leader and Barpeta MLA Abdur Rahim Khan for his comment leveling him as ‘murderer’. Mohilary filed the case at the court of Judicial Magistrate, Kokrajhar with CR case no 142/16.

The case under section 499/500/501/502 of the IPC was registered as filed by Hagrama Mohilary. The AIUDF MLA of 43 no Barpeta LAC termed Mohilary as killer in a public meeting held on February 1 last.

Talking to reporters outside the Court, Mohilary said, Abdur Rahim Khan called him a ‘murderer’ and now Khan has to prove it.

Mohilary said, “I seek inquiry and investigation into Abdur Rahim Khan’s comment who termed me as killer in a public meeting”. He also said that Khan should produce evidence that he is murderer.

BPF MLA Chandan Brahma, who accompanied Mohilary said, “We asked Abdur Rahim Khan to seek apology but he did not do it. So we had no other option but to file a crimil defamation case against him”.

He said if the AIUDF MLA fails to produce evidence, he would be booked for offence under section 499/500/501/502 of the IPC.  

Brahma said the objectioble remark of Abdur Rahim Khan against Mohilary was unfortute and unjustified and the people from all corners of BTC have severely condemned his comments. He also demanded that the matter would be investigated properly and guilty would be punished as per law of land.

Anda Bhuyan, advocate of Guahati High Court said BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary has filed defamation case against Abdur Rahim Khan who is AIUDF MLA of Barpeta. He said a case under Section 499/500/501/502of the IPC was registered against Khan at Kokrajhar Additiol Chief Judicial Magistrate. He also said the matter was a crimil case. Mohilary was also accompanied by BTC EM Doneswar Goyary and other party leaders.
