Molestation accused AMC councillor sent to police custody

Agartala, Dec 23 : An Agartala court today cancelled the interim bail earlier granted to the Councillor of the Agartala Municipal Corporation Mrinmoy Sen alias Khokan Baishb and ordered to send him to jail custody for 14 days. Mrinmoy Sen of RSP, a constituent of the ruling Left Front, was accused of molesting a minor girl who was a student in the private nursery school run by him. The court order came at a time when the opposition political parties are demonstrating throughout the state demanding action against the Left Front leaders accused of rape and molestation that includes the rural development minister resh Jamatia. They are also demanding removal of Jamatia from the state cabinet. The accused include Joy Kishor Jamatia, a member of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. He was recently expelled from CPI(M) but no case was registered against him.

The Trimool Congress organised protest rally in Agartala, Dharmagar and several other places demanding immediate action against the accused left leaders. The TMC MLA Ashish Saha and youth leader Sushanta Choudhury addressing a street corner meeting criticised the Chief Minister Manik Sarkar for maintaining silence over such serious allegations. ‘Instead of taking action he is giving them protection’, they said.

The Bharatiya Jata Party also raised similar demand and the state president of the party Biplab Deb threatened that they will launch a massive agitation if no action is taken within a reasoble time.
