KOKRAJHAR, July 13: An amount of Rs. 2.57 lakh was looted from a widow in the heart of Kokrajhar town on Thursday noon. The incident took place in front of the residences of the DC, SP, BTC IGP and Additional SP in broad daylight. Manjila Khatun, wife of Abdul Hamid of village Charagaon under Dotma PS, withdrew Rs. 2,20,000 from the SBI, Kokrajhar branch. Two unidentified motorcycle-borne miscreants followed Manjila Khatun from the bank. She was on a motorcycle with her brother Md. Azam Ali Shaik. The miscreants snatched her money bag in front of the DC’s residence. Khatun felt from the bike and was admitted at MRM Hospital, Kokrajhar. Talking to reporters, Md. Azam Ali Sheik said his sister withdrew Rs. 2,20,000 from Kokrajhar SBI branch to pay the lapsed LIC premium and she had Rs. 37,000 with her. The miscreants looted total Rs. 2.57 lakh. An FIR has been lodged in Kokrajhar police station. Police investigation is on.
