Money power in elections: Court breather for Ajmal

BARPETA, March 20: AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal was relieved of a long- term battle on Wednesday when a court here dismissed a litigation, alleging use of money power in the 2006 Assembly elections.

The first class judicial magistrate here dismissed the petition filed against the AIUDF leader, which virtually proved the latter innocent in the case accusing him of distributing cash during the poll campaign in the 2006 Assembly polls.

The AIUDF chief, who was here in connection with the hearing of the case, told the media here that he is not well aware about the recent happenings regarding the NRC or the ‘Assamese’ issue as he was in Delhi. Ajmal said he would discuss the issues in a meeting with party leaders in a day or two and arrive at a decision. He, however, favoured the settlement of the NRC update issue as per the provisions of the Assam Accord.
