Moran Book Fair gets under way

SIVASAGAR, Nov 12: AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi emphasized the importance of books in a civilized society while addressing a gathering on the occasion of the first day of Moran Book Fair. Gogoi iugurated the Moran Book fair, organized by Moran Press Club at the premises of PWD Inspection Bungalow on Wednesday and discussed the importance of books in human lives and society.  Iugurating the book fair, Gogoi said, “Moran Press Club has shown its responsibility towards the society by organizing the fair as book fairs are jewels of social life. They are the best cultural events.” Appealing to the people of Moran to make the event a grand success, the AASU leader said, “The book movement which has begun of late in Assam is a positive sign for society.” He also hoped that the event would convey a message to the masses that everyone should read books for a healthy society. The iugural event, which was presided over by the president of the organizing committee of Moran Book Fair, Anda Phukan, was also attended by Dr. Sukha Baruah, president, Sodou Asom Lekhika Samaroh Samity, Dr Kamal Borgohain, noted writer, Subhit Kumar Chetry, president of All Assam Press Correspondent’s Union and Ila Borgohain, president of Moran Xakha Xahitya Xabha. The book fair will conclude on November 18.
