More Durbar diktat against ostracized family

Staff Correspondent

Shillong, April 10:  The ostracize family of Sohmynting village in West Jaintia Hills  once again exposed the state machinery weakness to act upon the traditiol heads and village councils that whimsically used their power. Going by the official correspondence with authorities concerned, Suk Pyrtuh , the legal owner of the land in question at Sohmynthing was bulldozed by the Durbar Shnong of Sohmiynthing. Her protest cropped  up after she protest against the further encroachment of her land by the department of Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Meghalya Energy Company limited (MeCL).  The Durbar has unilaterally given a consent to the twin departments to set up a water supply project and MeCL transformer, to which she has no regrets.

Suk Pyrtuh defiance to further cede her land as per the diktat of the village council led to a situation where she had to face to face the present wrath.  Suk Pyrtuh said that she produced all the papers regarding her ownership over the land as registered in the Jaintia Hills District Council (JHADC). Yet the traditiol Durbar refused to accept.

Besides being ostracized, Suk Pyrtuh told The Sentinel on Tuesday that the latest episode is the Durbar threat to even bar the local taxis to ferry them. “This order was verbally given on April 2,” she said, adding that after the ostracise order, they have been denied of the benefits of the fair price shop.  “The latest directive to taxi drivers, never to board us is a new thing. Even relatives and other villagers have been barred to communicating with us”, she bemoaned. She filed a complained before the Jowai Police Station on the third of this month on the issue, but no concrete action has been initiated. Attempts to get in touch with The Superintendent of Police (SP) failed due to poor cellular network.
