Dibrugarh, October 12: A political convention of the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC) was held at Mancotta Sonowal Kachari Krishti Bhavan here on Sunday. The convention announced the formation of a new political platform with the me Sankalpa Sanjukto Gamancha, Asom (SSGA).
The 71-member central committee of the SSGA was formed with Dipak Saikia and Dipak Sonowal as president and general secretary respectively.
The president of Sadou Asom Sonowal Kachari Students’ Union (SASKU), Ratan Kachari, president of Women’s organization, Rashmi Rekha Sonowal, president of Sonowal Kachari Oikyo Moncho, Pronob Dekaboruah, former AGP legislator Jyots Sonowal, former president of Sonowal Kachari Students’ Union, Kuloswamy Laluwari, Dibrugarh president of Tribal Youth League, Roopak Sonowal and Arup Sonowal,Lokeshwar Hazarika and Tarun Borohajuwal attended the political convention.
The convention was formally iugurated by the founder president of Sonowal Kachari Jatiyo Parishad (SKJP) Keshav Sonowal, and former secretary of Sonowal Kachari Jatiyo Parishad (SKJP), Kamalakanta Sonowal presided over the meeting . In his iugural address, Keshab Sonowal called upon the leaders of all organizations to work together for resolving the various burning problems of the Sonowal Kachari community.
Later, the former president of Sadou Asom Sonowal Kachari Students’ Union (SASKSU), Dipak Saikia, who was the anchor of the convention, delivered his speech by stating that even after 69 years of country’s independence, neither the State Government nor any political party had done anything to solve the socio- economic, educatiol , agriculture, health and unemployment problems of the community. As a result, Saikia said, the whole community had been pushed into the shadows of darkness. Expressing serious concern over tural calamities like flood, erosion and hailstorms which over the years had paralyzed the progress of the community, Saikia lamented that but no respite had come from the State Government or from the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council.
Saikia further alleged that the State Government had failed to address the grievances of the Sonowal Kachari community by not extending fincial assistance to the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC). He urged upon the State Government to confer more power and fincial assistance to the SKAC, failing which , Saikia cautioned the government that they would not hesitate to initiate a prolonged agitation till their demands were met.
