MORIGAON: Morigaon district administration and District Tobacco Control Cell have decided to make all puja pandals in the district tobacco-free.

The district administration, in collaboration with the District Tobacco Control Cell, enforced the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 (COTPA), clause no. 4 in order to keep a check on tobacco consumers during Durga Puja festival.

Dr. Jaya Prava Bodo, Nodal Officer, NTCP, Morigaon said that consumption of tobacco in public places was a crime. “As puja mandaps are public places, we have decided to make them tobacco-free. The District Tobacco Control Cell has already sent two banners for each Puja mandap in the district. The Puja committees must display one banner in front of the entrance gate and the other inside the mandap,” said Dr. Bodo.
