Blood dotion camp organized on the 105th birth anniversary of the Saint

Silchar, Aug 28: On the occasion of the 105th birth anniversary of Mother Teresa, a voluntary blood dotion camp was jointly organized by the college unit of Red Ribbon Club and tiol Service Scheme (NSS) in the premises of Gurucharan College on Thursday. 265 people including 63 girls doted blood on the occasion. The camp began at 10 am in the morning and continued till 2 pm in the afternoon. It is a record of sorts that such a huge number of college students, boys and girls, have doted blood on a single day in an academic institution in Barak Valley.

Speaking on the occasion, Sumita Dutta Gupta, in-charge of Blood Bank at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, said that doting blood is indeed a noble cause. More awareness should be made to make people realize the importance of doting blood. Citizens particularly the youth should be encouraged to dote their precious blood. She further said that in case of emergency including accidents, operations and child birth it is always the need for blood that takes precedence over other matters. One does not ask for religion, caste or creed of the donor as it is blood which is needed the most at that time. Blood unites the whole country. Even a pint of blood can save up to three lives.

Sumita Dutta Gupta praised the college authorities and expressed her gratefulness to the students for making the event a great success. Saurindra Kumar Bhattacharjee, president of the governing body, and Subhendra Kumar Das, in-charge of academics of Gurucharan College, M Gabhushan, programme coorditor, NSS, Assam University, Apratim g, in-charge NSS, Gurucharan College, and Joydeep Paul, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, among others.
