Motivational programme for cooperative societies held

SHILLONG, May 8: A one-day Motivational Programme for Cooperative Societies was held today at the Shella Bholaganj C & RD Block, Sohra.

The programme was organized by the Office of the Sub-Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Sohra Sub Division Sohra, was attended by members of various cooperative societies operating within the region as well as by Self Help Groups, educated unemployed youths and members of Village Development Committees under the block.

N. Syiemiong, Branch Manager, Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd., Sohra Branch was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Syiemiong highlighted the importance of the cooperative societies and further called upon the people to form cooperative societies as they yield better results and improves the financial condition and livelihood of the people which facilitates towards the progress and development of the society.

He also informed the gathering that one advantage of a Cooperative society is that loans are easier to avail from Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd and a number of registered cooperative societies in the region have availed and received loans from Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd., Sohra Branch. The common types of registered cooperative societies in the region are Consumer based, Tourism, Poultry and Piggery, Livestock and Fisheries etc. Earlier, J. C.Paul, Sub- Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Sohra Sub Division Sohra informed the gathering that the objective of the Motivational Programme was to highlight on the meaning of a cooperative society, its functions, benefits, management and the various steps and procedures required to form a cooperative society.

Further, he said that people were not coming forward to avail these benefits so programmes such as these are being conducted to inform, encourage and motivate them in coming together and forming cooperative societies.

In all, 83 Cooperative Societies have been registered under the Office of the Sub- Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Sohra Sub Division
