Motor vehicle tax: Thangkhiew seeks clarification from EC

SHILLONG, June 21: TS Thangkhiew, MDC Mylliem constituency during the question hour, sought clarification from the Executive Committee on the sudden boost in the amount received by the KHADC from taxes on motor vehicles.

The amount received by the District Council from taxes on motor vehicles for the year 2015-2016 was Rs. 81, 00000 and for 2016 till date it is Rs. 2, 0000000.   

In this connection KHADC CEM P N Syiem said, “The Transport department when it comes to tax on motor vehicles gives on installment basis and the Rs. 81 lakhs is an installment of 2011-2012 and the Rs. 2 crores is only the 1st installment of 2012-13 and there is still more area yet to be received by the Council.”

He however said that the Council has learned that the process to clear the remaining area is in progress.

Thangkhiew also questioned if there has been any follow up from the EC to get all the shares of the Council from the state government.

In this regard Syiem informed that the EC has been following up on the issue of area and they have learned that the government in past few days has process to clear the remaining area from 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16.
