From a Correspondent
Tezpur, June 11: Different organizations, including Bahbari Anchalick Boro Sahitya Sabha, West Tezpur Anchalick ABSU and Bengali Students’ Federation, have opposed the move to open a liquor shop in Phulaguri under Rangapara PS in Sonitpur district by some unscrupulous people. The office bearers of the three organizations alleged that Amit Mech of Hatidubi area, supported by some corrupt contractors and one surrendered NDFB leader, was going to open the liquor shop at Phulaguri centre which is near various social and academic organizations like Kadamtal High School, Khelmati High and ME school and Soli Junior College. The organizations have also opined that due to the sale of country liquor in the greater area, already the social environment, as well as the student community, has been affected severely and if the liquor shop is permitted to run there, the social environment of the area will deteriorate further. Attracting the attention of the authority concerned, including the Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur, Laya Madduri, District Excise Office and police administration, the socially aware people of the area, besides the three organizations, have urged the authorities concerned to intervene in the matter.
