MP Sushmita Dev takes stock of IWMP progress

 Silchar, April 11: The activities under Integrated Watershed Magement Programme (IWMP) at Langlachora were monitored by the Silchar MP and the district vigilance and monitoring committee chairperson Sushmita Dev recently. She visited the area and took the stock of the activities done so far under the scheme.

 Dev was accompanied by the divisiol officer of Soil Conservation Office and the project mager of IWMP Baikunta Goala, range officer of Harigar Soil Conservation Office and the watershed development team leader Chandra Mohan Gogoi and ZPC member Biswajit Singha Chetri.

 Silchar MP also met the beneficiaries and interacted with them. Goala highlighted benefits of the scheme. He said that the IWMP scheme was an initiative of the Central Government to make the villagers independent. According to him, the scheme ebles multi–cropping and the diverse agro–based activities, which help to provide sustaible livelihoods to the people residing in the watershed areas.  One of the aims of IWMP is also to restore the ecological balance by harnessing, conserving and developing degraded tural resources such as soil, vegetative cover and water. A district wise meeting regarding the progress of IWMP held in the office of the Cachar deputy commissioner Gokul Mohan Hazarika. In the meeting, Baikunta Goala elaborated the work done under the programme in the district.
