Shillong, May 2: Sanriti Nongsiej of Mawkyrwat and Vanni Dondor E. Mawlot of Mawkyrwat were declared winners and crowned Mr & Miss South West Khasi Hills district. The contest cum beauty pageant was organised by the District Arts & Culture Society, South West Khasi Hills, in collaboration with the Seng Samla Shnong Mawkyrwat with an objective to showcase the richness of the culture and traditiol dresses under the theme ‘Sarong La Ka jong’. The winners of the contest were awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 along with a citation while, the first runners-up - Ms Bestifully Syiemlieh and second runners-up, Miss Darishisha L. Marshillong and Mr. Joshua Nongsiej of Ranikor village first runners-up among the Male category and Mr. Regan Girod Second runners-up were awarded with cash prize of Rs. 7,000 and Rs. 5,000 respectively. Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, R. Lyngdoh, Deputy Commissioner, informed the gathering that the contest is a platform to encourage youth of the district to come forward and be capable to face various competitions.
