SHILLONG, Dec 19: Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma today said that the Congress is firm and ready to defend the secular fabric of India.
Dr Sangma’s statement came a day after RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat remarked that anybody living in India is a Hindu.
According to Dr Sangma India is a secular democratic country and secularism is part of the country’s Constitution.
Slamming Bhagwat’s remark, the Chief Minister said, “Their (RSS) agenda is only to divide the Indian people on line of religion and create commul tension.”
Dr Sangma said that the RSS chief’s statement at Tripura is loud and clear that the motive is to that (create commul tension) and people really needed to ponder.
The Meghalaya Chief Minister said that it was ucceptable to say that anybody living in India is a Hindu since the world knows that India is a secular democratic country and secularism is part of India’s constitution.
Dr Sangma also stated that the country’s secular ideals are under threat because of the ideology of RSS and BJP.
Urging people of the country to not allow such divisive forces to spread commulism as it is dangerous and pose a threat to India, the Chief Minister said, “We cannot allow these divisive forces to further penetrate and it is dangerous for any tion to be dictated by such forces.”
