From our Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, February 26: The three-day sit-in observed by All Assam Municipal Employees' Union (AAMEU) near Dibrugarh Municipality Board's office, demanding their jobs to be regularized as a government service from February 23, concluded here successfully.

The employees of Municipal Board have been working dedicatedly day and night to keep town clean and also dedicated their precious time for the welfare of the people. They played a pivotal role in smooth functioning of the day-to-day work of the municipal board as well as the citizens of the respective town. However, these employees of the Municipal Boards, despite their relentless work and dedication, most of them are deprived of their salaries and other perks. The AAMEU since 1971 was pressing the government for solving their long- standing problems, including regularization of their jobs and to bring retired employees under pension scheme but no initiative has been made by the government in this regard. The AAMEU renewed their demands and urged the State Government to fulfil all their demands, including all facilities as directed by the Industrial Tribul and labour court.

In a press communiqué, president Pradip Das and secretary Khalil Uddin Ahmed, AAMEU cautioned the government that they would not hesitate to intensify their stir if the latter failed to fulfil their demands. Hundreds of employees and others participated in the recently concluded three -day sit-in.
