DIPHU, April 19: The stir against the alleged barbaric killing of Prab alias Mithu Das continues in Karbi Anglong. A 12-hour Karbi Anglong bandh has been called by the Bengali Samaj and Bengali Yuba Chatra Federation on April 20 to demand arrest of Prab Das’ killers.
A press meet was held on Tuesday at Howraghat by Bengali Samaj and Bengali Yuba Chatra Federation jointly. Leaders from 15 different social and student organizations attended the press meet and strongly condemned the barbaric killing.
While supporting the 12-hour Karbi Anglong bandh called by Bengali Samaj and Bengali Yuba Chatra Federation, Anil Hazarika, president, Asomia Bhasik Sanstha, Karbi Anglong district, strongly condemned the killing of Prab Das. He demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and compensation for the victim’s family. Addressing the press meet, Manik Das, chief adviser, Bengali Yuba Chatra Federation and Sagar Das, vice president, A Karbi Saruksha Mancha, demanded compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the victim’s family.
Besides, they warned that such an incident should not be repeated. Bind Tokbi, adviser, Karbi Students’ Association (KSA), Howraghat regiol also condemned and demanded stern punishment for the killers of Prab Das.
Social and student organizations like Bengali Jatiya Manch, Asomia Bhasik Sanstha, All Adivasi Students’ Association (AASA), United Students’ of Karbi Anglong (USKA), Tiwa Students’ Union (TSU), Bengali Aikya Manch, Nepali Students’ Association, KSA, Bhuspuri Chatra Sanstha, A Karbi Aikya Manch and Karbi Anglong Aikya Manch have extended support to the 12-hour Karbi Anglong.
Prab alias Mithu Das was brutally killed by a group of hooligans at Dengaon on April 17. Police have already arrested one person in this connection.
