Myanmar in MUDA stops construction of two multi storey buildings

A CORRESPONDENT

GUWAHATI, Sept 16: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma on Friday said that the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has issued direction to stop construction of two, 14 storey buildings being built by Brahmaputra Realtor Private Ltd at Khapara, Raid Marwet in Ri-Bhoi district.

According to Dr Sangma the entity has also been asked to apply for the building bye laws.

Raising a query during the Question Hour, Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) legislator from Nongkrem, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit asked how a non-tribal entity is being asked to apply for building bye-laws when it attracts the provisions of the Meghalaya Transfer of Land Regulation Act.

To this the Chief Minister replied, “If it applies for the building bye-laws they will have to give the ownership of the building or else processing will not be done.”

Dr Sangma also assured that he will have a quick review of the matter at his level and ensure that a logical conclusion happens at the earliest.
