Naba Kumar Sarania retains Kokrajhar ST seat defeating his rival BPF candidate Pramila Rani Brahma

Kokrajhar: In a dramatic development, 5-Kokrajhar (ST) HPC independent candidate Naba Kumar Sarania, supported by O Boro Suraksha Mancha and other student organizations, retained the Kokrajhar seat by a margin of 38,185 votes defeating his rival BPF candidate Pramila Rani Brahma. Meanwhile, the ABSU-backed UPPL candidate UG Brahma could occupy the third place with 3,08,812 votes.

Sarania got 4,79,202 votes while Pramila Rani Brahma got 4,41,017 votes. Congress candidate Sabdaram Rabha got only 1,43,737 votes while NOTA votes in Kokrajhar was 15,755.

Naba Kumar Sarania won the 2014 election with 6,34,428 votes while BPF candidate Chandan Brahma got 2,43,759 votes and UPPL candidate UG Brahma got 2,78.649 votes. Congress candidate Sabdaram Rabha could draw only 20,074 votes while the number of NOTA vote was 18,183. This time too, Sarania got the support of the infamous O-Boro group while AKRSU, Adivasi students’ association and ABMSU also extended their support. No candidate was seen visiting the counting hall in Kokrajhar other than UPPL candidate UG Brahma who visited only in the morning.
