Nagaland celebrates International Women’s Day

KOHIMA: Along with the rest of the world, Nagaland on Friday celebrated the International Women’s Day. The day was marked with numerous functions being organized at towns across the State.

In Phek, the Phek Town Women Baptist Union in collaboration with the district administration under the Bedi Bachao Beti Padhao programme, organized the International Women’s Day at Phek Town Baptist Church under the global theme “Balance for better”, stated a DIPR release.

Zaposhelu Venuh and Votalü Luru-o were awarded with certificates and cash incentives in recognition for their valuable service and contribution towards uplift of women community and the welfare of girl child in the district.

SDO Civil HQ, T Lemlila Sangtam delivered the welcome address. Theme speaker, Vevolu Khamo, shared the importance of gender equality for a holistic development of a society.

Pfutsero: The Chakesang women welfare society in collaboration with the Pfutsero town Mothers’ Association celebrated International Women’s Day on Friday with Dr Diana as its keynote speaker.

In her address, Dr Diana urged the gathering to rise up and transform society basing its principles on the various sets of laws and acts formulated by the Constitution for women rights and safety.

Bhandari: International Women’s Day-cum-literary competition under Bedi Bachao Beti Padhao, organized by the district administration, Wokha, was held at the Town Hall Bhandari on Friday.

Special guest of the programme, Thungsali Odyuo, thanked the district administration for the support and intensified effort to help empower and uplift the status of women in society by helping them to be more aware of their rights, potential and worth and be partners in building a progressive society for all on equal terms.

Peren: Peren district observed the International Women’s Day on Friday at Peren Town GB Hall under the theme “Think equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change”. The programme was organized by the Department of Social Welfare, Peren.
