First plastic-free nursery opens in Kohima

KOHIMA: The first plastic-free forest nursery in Nagaland was inaugurated by SP Tripathi PCCF & HoFF, Nagaland, in presence of senior officials of the department on Wednesday at Kohima. The nursery has a capacity of around 10,000 saplings raised in cloth bags which is under Kohima division. The plastic-free nursery was raised with an objective to reduce single-use plastic items for a sustainable future and also to fulfill the mandate of the department to go plastic free by 2022. During the programme, DFO Kohima, Rongsenlemla Imchen, highlighted the importance of exploring alternatives to single-use plastic bags for raising saplings. She also stressed that though costly and labour intensive, such an initiative will have long term environmental benefits. While addressing the gathering, SP Tripathi touched upon the harmful effects of plastics in relation to environmental pollution and thanked the division for putting its effort into practice. PCCF Nagaland, Rajat Pal and APCCF, M Ngullie also spoke during the programme wherein both officers appreciated the initiative of the division and said that it can be replicated in other district as well. To mark the occasion, cloth bag saplings were distributed to village communities from various villages. The programme was attended by DFO Kohima, Ranger Kohima Range, executive staffs, village communities and senior officials of the department, stated a DIPR release.

Skill seminar, job fair

KOHIMA: The Mon district administration will be organizing a one-day skills seminar and job fair on May 28 at Mon Town Council Hall in collaboration with the Department of Labour & Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of Nagaland. All 21 empanelled training partners of the Department of Labour & Employment Skill Development & Entrepreneurship will be present at the seminar. This is the first time such an event is happening anywhere in Nagaland. The Empanelled training partners include Emporium Training Institute, Make Over Academy, TUSTI Foundation, Pinnacle Skills, Youth Net, Setu Seva, ASSOCOM, ITHM Kolkata, Colour Nations, Skills Alli, Indianeers Media Pvt Ltd, Learn to Earn, Visan Hospitality, TBL Education, TK Skills, Pinnacle Skill, National Institute of Professional Studies, Orion Edutech (I) Pvt. Ltd. Dimapur, Karna Organic Pvt. Ltd. Noida, Indianeers Media Pvt. Ltd and Indianeers Media Pvt. Ltd, stated a DIPR release.

Golden jubilee

KOHIMA: The Ungma Senso Telongjem Kohima (Ungma Union Kohima) will be celebrating its golden jubilee at RCEMPA, Jotsoma here from May 25 to 28 with Dr Akok Walling, retd Principal of Dimapur Government College as the main speaker. Other speakers for the celebration will include ex- Chief Minister of Nagaland Dr SC Jamir, Muthingnyuba Sangtam and Lipokmeren. The jubilee souvenir will also be released by Minister for PWD, Tongpang Ozukum. Poetry reciting and special hymn presentation will be the other highlights during the celebration, stated a DIPR release.
