Nagaon Paper Mill employees demand release of pending salary

JAGIROAD: The 24-hour long hunger strike resorted to by the employees of the Nagaon Paper Mill ended on Saturday. Kagaj Nigam Karmi Union (KNKU) general secretary Ananda Bordoloi, while speaking to this correspondent, said that the employees of Nagaon Paper Mill were yet to receive their monthly salary and other benefits for the last 21 months while the employees of Cachar Paper Mill at Panchgram were yet to receive salary and other benefits for the last 23 months. He also said that production of both the mills had been stopped since the last two years and the employees were demanding the government to revive the mills.

For this the union has undertaken many agitation programmes but both the Central and State governments were merely ignoring their demands by giving false assurances. He also alleged that not a single representative of the ruling party met the agitating employees on Saturday. However, Harish Rawat and Dwijen Sarma of the Congress and former AGP minister and local MLA Bubul Das visited the spot. Bordoloi also said that the women organizations of the mill would stage another strike on December 3.
