National Disaster Management Authority Conducts Mock Drill in Howraghat

HOWRAGHAT: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in coordination with Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) conducted a two-day mock exercise on earthquake. The Disaster Management Department of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Karbi Anglong, conducted mock exercise on earthquake disaster by creating emergency-like situation in Diphu town areas like Vishal Market Mall, District Agriculture Office, Educational Institution and United Bank of India Building.

The mock drill was conducted in association with Diphu Police, APRO, Fire Department, Health and Services, and DIPRO. The overall objective of the exercise was to review the State and District Disaster Management plan along with identifying the gaps and enhancing coordination among the stakeholders and responding agencies following the concept and principle of Incident Response System (IRS) at State and district-level.

TANGLA: In a bid to educate people about disaster preparedness and mitigation and to make them swiftly respond during emergency, a State-level mock drill exercise was conducted in different chosen venues of Udalguri district. The chosen venues were Udalguri Hospital, Aspire Junior College, DC Office, Indian Shopping Mart and Officers Colony and Bagoriguri LP School was the venue chosen for relief camp. As soon as the siren rang, all the officers assembled at the District Emergency Operation Centre (DOEC). After the incident of earthquake was stimulated, Incident Response Team took information about the devastated areas and the in-charge officers proceeded to the staging area which was created in the parade ground from where the NDRF, Indian Army, Fire and Emergency Services, civil defence and home guards were instructed to take their position and then they proceeded to the specific areas where the devastation was reported.

The volunteer patients were also transported by ambulance service to the District Hospital. The doctors and nurses proceeded to their destination. After completion of the entire drill, the District Magistrate observed the gaps and the problems that were faced during such natural calamity disaster operation and presented it during the video conference of Hot Wash.
