National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Imphal Closed Down by Students’ Wing

National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Imphal got locked down by the volunteers of Students’ Wing of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) Manipur. The reason for the protest and locking down of the institute is being stated as a protest against the interview process. As expressed by the volunteers, the institute is holding the interview for the recruitment of 22 faculty members who hails from outside the state.

It is reported that although the permanent campus of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) is in Imphal, the interviews are held in Kolkata. There were repeated appeals to hold the interview in Imphal and the authorities overlooked it. This made the student wing to protest and postpone the interview until the authority addresses the demand.

Manjit Sarangthem, the convener of the students’ wing said that despite the repeated requests and demands, the authorities are holding the interviews in Kolkata and “there is no valid reason for holding the interview outside the state.”

Manjit also added that there are wrong intentions of misconduct and wrongdoings to be done in the interview process for which the authority has chosen to perform the interview at Hotel Gateway, Kolkata on August 18 and 19. Moreover, this decision of the authorities has come out as a mock towards the indigenous people of the state.

However, whatever is the intention and what come may the result, the convener has made it clear that the outcome will not be peaceful and there will be intense agitation if the authority denies reciprocating to the demands of the students’ wing.
