National meet on substance use and abuse held in West Siang district

Itanagar: The SFS College at Yeggo in West Siang district on Monday held a national conference on the theme ‘Substance Use and Abuse’.

The camp was organized by the department of sociology, in association with Fransalian Agency for Social Care and Education (FAsCE), a Guwahati-based NGO, an official release informed. The conference consisted of two technical sessions which was presided over by Dr Bino Thomas of National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore and Dr K S Joseph, Associate professor of Don Bosco University, Guwahati.

Participants from various States presented their papers with topics like ‘alcoholism, drug abuse among children and adolescence’, substance abuse in capital complex, opium cultivation and consumption, the association of substance use behaviour of parents and children, societal response to drugs and substance use disorder were presented in depth.

Director of 100 Days Rehab, Kennedy Bagra gave an elaborate explanation regarding the use of drugs through his personal experience and also how to overcome or to bring back someone from that situation, the release added.
