National Panchayati Raj Day celebrated

Guwahati, April 24: National Panchayati Raj Day was celebrated in Dhakuakhana on Tuesday. “On the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day, I greet all of you. I am overwhelmed by your such a large participation. This special Gram Sabha is to promote social harmony, reach out to poor rural households, obtain feedback on ongoing programmes,” Minister Naba Kumar Doley said in the Gram Sabha organized on the occasion of the day. Further he also said that for the development of the State awareness, cooperation and active participation of the common people are very much essential. The special Gram Sabha also witnessed the presence of  Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah.

Along with the nation, Gram Swaraj Abhiyan is also being celebrated in the State from April 14 to May 5. The main objective of the Abhiyan is to enrol in new initiatives, focus on doubling farmers income, enhance livelihood opportunities and re-emphasize the priorities such as cleanliness and strengthen Panchayati Raj Institutions.

Among the other activities of the Abhiyan, the National Panchayati Raj Divas has been commemorated in the State. All the 2200 Gaon Panchayats in the State celebrated the National Panchayati Raj Day. Special Gaon Sabhas were conducted in all the Gaon Panchayats. Activities like prabhat pheries, cultural programmes, rural sports, art competition etc. were organized in all the GPs. Significant participation of people from all sections especially women and from the marginalized sections of the society was witnessed in the special Gram Sabha. During the special Gram Sabha, the information regarding the ongoing scheme was disseminated among the Gram Sabha members.

It is also to be mentioned that today in a function on the occasion in Madhya Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conferred award to the best performing Panchayats of each States. From Assam Tinsukia Zilla Parishad, Dhemaji Anchalik Panchayat, Bongaon Gaon Panchayat of Nalbari district, Kowargaon Gaon Panchayat of Morigaon district and Rajapukhuri Gaon Panchayat of Sivasagar district has received the Deen DayalUpadhay Panchayat Sasaktikaran Puraskar, stated a press release.
