National People’s Party requests the State and the Central Government to intensify drive against rebels

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh unit of National People’s Party (NPP) on Wednesday requested the State as well as the Central Government to immediately deploy adequate paramilitary forces in Tirap district and conduct operation against the insurgent groups responsible for killing sitting MLA from Khonsa West constituency Tirong Aboh and ten others.

The party who called an emergency State executive meeting further appealed the investigating police team to trace out the political leaders of the district who are involved with the militant groups for killing Tirong Aboh.

The party expressed shock over the brutal killing of Aboh, State NPP general secretary Wangngoi Hakhun and nine others who were travelling from Dibrugarh to Khonsa on Tuesday. Party State unit president Gicho Kabak while condemning the killings alleged the incident as ‘political murder’ by engaging insurgent groups.

“This is the first ever incident that insurgent group ambushed and killed contested candidate in the state,” Kabak said in a statement here.

The party also requested the state government to provide sufficient security personnel to protect the life of NPP candidates and party leaders.

Jaley Anna, a supporter of Aboh was also beaten to death by NSCN (IM) at Khonsa on March 29 last while one gaon burah, Bengia Tamang supporter of NPP candidate Pani Taram was shot dead on April 26 this year near Taba polling station under Koloriang assembly constituency in Kurung Kumey district. The party appealed the people of the State to extend full support to the police and paramilitary forces during investigation and operation against the militant groups.
