Nature lovers takes out Wildlife Campaign in Guwahati

Guwahati: A wildlife campaign was brought out by nature lovers at Dighalipukhuri park gate from 1 pm on Sunday which showed a tremendous response with at least 60 wildlife lovers, hailing from all walks of life, joining the rally. Participants added a life and aura to the rally by joining it in bikes and cycles. As an act of spreading awareness among the passers-by, the participants took to distribute leaflets, hold placards and shouted slogans to announce the objective of the rally.

The rally was organized by a group of people consisting of animal rights activists, environmentalists, wildlife conservationists and common people. This group also contains people who were a part of the national campaign.

The campaign was primarily being organized as an awareness campaign for saving the life of Tigress Avni and her two cubs. Notably, the campaign to save Avni was held all over the nation by the wildlife activists and the Guwahati rally too was a part of the national campaign.

However, the sad news for the wildlife and Avni lovers came then when they got to know that Avni has already been killed on November 2 and the process used for killing her came into light as a cold-blooded killing without following the protocol on using tranquillizers. The very process used for killing tigress Avni has evoked even more anger among the wildlife activists which took a larger shape with a campaign for saving all animals.

Notably, Avni the tigress and her two 9-month-old cubs were living in Pandharkawada forest in Yavatmal district, Maharashtra and this forest are particularly infamous for illegal cattle grazing, encroachment and expansion of private cement factory. Another environmental hazard created in the Yavatmal district of Maharashtra is the large use of pesticide poisoning.

As per the reports of the Maharashtra state, Avni was a man-eating tigress with a record of killing 13 humans in the past 2 years. This is also to be noticed that of the 13 killings, 10 had happened on Saturday-Sunday and this has always been creating a cloud of doubt as to why would the man-eater choose to kill a man only on the weekdays! The very matter of Avni being a man-eater is gloomy as of the 13 deaths that are said to be done by the tigress, only three people had undergone DNA test and shockingly of the three as well, only one person could match the DNA of Avni. This very thing makes many things clear while also keeping many things under doubt. However, it is based on the record of humans killed in the forest that the court had directed a shoot order for Avni.

Now the fact that is making it hard for the environmentalists to believe is how the two cubs of Avni will survive without her. The cubs, at present, are too young to arrange for their living through hunting and the next thing to disturb the Avni lovers is her male mate T2. The father of the two cubs is still alive and the state will next be commencing its hunt for the male tiger.

The rally in Guwahati was a reflection of love for nature and wildlife among the city dwellers and an even bigger event is on the card which is to be held on November 11, 2018. The forthcoming rally is scheduled to be even bigger with the entire nation showing a positive response towards it. Many cities in India and abroad are to hold the rally in their respective places.
