Navjot Singh Sidhu Quits Punjab Cabinet After Spat With Chief Minister, Posts Letter On Twitter

Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, who has been associated in a tussle with his supervisor boss chief minister Amarinder Singh, recently resigned from the state cabinet on Sunday.

Navjot Singh Sidhu made the announcement on Twitter and sent the letter to Rahul Gandhi rather than Amarinder Singh. “My letter to the Congress President Shri. Rahul Gandhi Ji submitted on 10 June 2019,” he tweeted.

After some time, he tweeted that he will send the resignation to the Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. The chief minister’s office said they haven't received Navjot Singh Sidhu's resignation letter, as per as the media reported.

Last month, Sidhu was deprived of his portfolios of Local Bodies, Tourism and Culture ministries after he avoided a cabinet meeting. Sidhu then ripped into CM Amarinder Singh in a press conference saying that he "can't be underestimated" and he is just "liable to the people of Punjab".

Sidhu met Rahul Gandhi after the cabinet reshuffle and tweeted an image where he can be seen with Rahul Gandhi, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and senior party leader Ahmed Patel.

Sidhu has relegated the power portfolio in the reshuffle however even after a month the cricketer-turned-politician didn't expect the charge. The CM has been leading meets in the power department in absence of Sidhu.

The differences between Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu came out in the open after the CM accused Sidhu's clumsy handling" of the local government department for the "horrible performance" of the Congress in the urban areas in the Lok Sabha elections.

The CM had said that the urban vote was the foundation of the Congress in Punjab yet Sidhu's "disappointment" to do any advancement work had hurt the party. Amarinder had additionally expressed disappointment over his "good-nature match" comment during a poll rally in Bathinda.

Sidhu hit back blaming Amarinder for unreasonably "singling" him out for the poor show of the Congress in the urban areas of Punjab. Navjot Singh has been at loggerheads with Amarinder Singh as far back as his wife Navjot Kaur was denied a ticket for the Lok Sabha polls.
