Naxal Attack in Chhattisgarh kills Doordarshan Cameraman and 2 Jawans

Acting against the ethics, Naxalites in Dantewada’s Aranpur, Chattisgarh, attacked a crew of the national broadcaster Doordarshan. This attack led DD cameraperson Achyutanand Sahu to be critically injured and later, he succumbed to his injuries. In addition to the DD cameraman, two security personnel were also martyred in the attack.

The Doordarshan crew was in the area for covering poll progress for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. DIG P Sundarraj said, ‘Today our patrolling party was ambushed by Naxals in Aranpur. Two of our personnel were martyred, and a DD cameraman was also injured and later succumbed. Two more personnel injured.’

The Dantewada area is deeply marked for Naxal violence and in recent times, there have been many instances of Naxal attack in the area. Before the incident on Monday; on Sunday as well, BJP leader was critically injured on being attacked by suspected Naxals with sharp-edged weapons.

On Sunday’s incident, Nandal Mudiyami, a member of Dantewada Zila Panchayat was attacked at his house in Palnar village at around 8 pm. Thankfully, Mudiyami was rushed to Dantewada hospital by his relatives immediately after the attack and had also informed the police.

As the ultras are against the polls and asking the local voters to boycott the assembly polls, such incidents of attack on political leaders and others supporting the poll have become a frequent sight now.

In Chattisgarh, the first phase of polls will be held on November 12 across eight Naxal-affected districts namely Bastar, Kanker Sukma, Bijapur, Dantewada, Narayanpur, Kondagaon and Rajnandgaon. Polls on the remaining 72 constituencies will take place on November 20.
