NCHISF demands strict action against NHAI

Haflong, Nov 23: Requesting strict action against NHAI for not fulfilling their assurance regarding maintence of Jatinga-Harangajao Road, the NC Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum (NCHISF) has submitted a representation to the Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao on Thursday. The representation signed by the president Devid Keivom and general secretary Paoneilun Changsan of NC Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum stated that the NCHISF had been continuously demanding for immediate maintence of Jatinga- Harangajao road for the last few years.

NCHISF was compelled to organized a peaceful dhar, road blockade and even visited NHAI Regiol Office, Guwahati several times to raise the issue. As per the joint meeting held on September 2, NHAI representatives B Baruah, General Mager and K Kamki, Project Director, had given assurance that the maintence work of Jatinga- Harangajao road would be started within 30 days but even after two months, the maintence work has not yet started.

They lamented that the road was deteriorating day-by-day and students and patients were the worst sufferers. Accidents have become frequent.  Even though the road distance is only about 30 km, it takes more than two hours due to deplorable condition of the road. They demanded strict action against the NHAI for making a false assurance again and again to the district administration and the people of the district. “If the maintence work is not started immediately, we will have no other option other than to go for road blockade once again,” they stated.
