Haflong, June 21: The NC Hills Indigenous Student Forum (NCHISF) submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, through the Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao on Tuesday. The NCHISF, while representing all affected families of NC Hills district due to the BG construction executed by NF Railways, said that in the last joint meeting convened on May 2, it was decided that the Railways authority would pay all necessary pending compensation to the affected families within two months. The NCHISF too agreed to it after giving a thorough thinking over it and convinced the affected families to remain calm till then.
As the monsoon season has arrived, the affected people in the district have begun to face all kinds of problems. So, it is extremely necessary for them to receive the compensation and reconstruct their dwelling places, stated the memorandum. The NCHISF said that the affected people had lost confidence on the Railway authority and therefore, urged the Chief Secretary to take necessary action against the Railway authority to compensate the poor affected families within two months as per the assurance given to the people in the joint meeting.
