NCP legislator bats for restoration of MDC status

FROM A REPORTER

SHILLONG, Aug 30: Former MDC and NCP legislator Sanbor Shullai on Tuesday said that he has sent a letter to the state government seeking restoration of MDC status. The legislator took the decision after the Meghalaya High Court upheld Governor V Shanmugathan’s order of May 31, which stated that MLA PN Syiem has not attracted disqualification under Article 191 (1) (a) of the Constitution and disposed of the petition filed by CSWO seeking disqualification of the seven dual post holders. Speaking to reporters, Shullai said, “I have sent a letter of appeal and it up to the government to examine the matter as we resigned from the post of MDC out of compulsion but we respect the decision of the government.” When asked whether he felt that the government is misleading the MDCs with the dual post bill, he replied in the positive. “We have resigned and we have respected the law.  It is now up to the government to decide,” he added.
