NE agro-scientists awarded in Meghalaya

Guwahati, Feb 27: A number of top agriculture scientists have been awarded by the Indian Council for Agriculture Research (ICAR) in recognition of their contributions in the development of agriculture sector in the hilly Northeastern region.

The awards were presented to the scientists by the director general of ICAR Trilochan Mohapotro during the two day long farming cum exhibition show held at the ICAR campus in Barapani in Meghalya.

Swamithan award was conferred on BP Bhatt, Director, ICAR Research Complex Eastern Region, Pat while D N Borthakur was given to Mrinmoy Dutta and his team.

The agriculture institute also honoured the stalwarts served in the Northeast region. In the exhibition being held from February 25-27, more than 1200 farmers from eight states exhibited their products. Two day-long interaction and lecture by top agriculture scientists were also conducted.

Speaking on the occasion, the ICAR director general Trilochan Mohapatro said that ICAR is dedicated to serve the Northeastern region and till date the institute has produced many wonderful technologies and various products to benefit the farmers.

He said that NE is the colourful canvas of the country and the diversity and the richness of tradition is unique. The region is bestowed with immense tural resources which needs to be harnessed in a proper and scientific manner.  A glittering cultural function was also organised during the two day long exhibition cum workshop agri-fair.
