'NE people have less knowledge about benefits of ICSI'

SHILLONG, Sept 28: With over 46,000 members and about 4, 00,000 students, all over the country, the people of Northeast and Meghalaya in particular have very less knowledge about the benefits of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India engaged in the propagation and promotion of Company Secretaries as Governce Professiols.

This was informed by CS Shyam Agrawal, Vice-President, ICSI here at a conference on Wednesday.

Stating that the awareness about this institute in Meghalaya is not very encouraging and has not at all develop in these part of the region, Agarwal said “We wish to propagate about this profession here in Meghalaya because the Institute of Company Secretaries of India which is the cheapest in the country is a premier tiol professiol body constituted under an Act of Parliament in 1980 is fully engaged in the propagation and promotion of Company Secretaries as Governce Professiols.” He also informed that the Northeast centre of this institute is in Guwahati and students can join the course after their class XII and graduate and the best part is the students can do their courses at home and need not attend the regular classes.

Stating that they are trying their level best to get students enrolled in this institute and one such branch has been open in Shillong College to felicitate students and to give information about it, he also informed that there are only 200 members secretaries here in Northeast and in Shillong about only 10-12 members’ secretaries.

He also said that as soon as the enrollment increases here they will open an exam centre here in Shillong itself.
