'Need to strengthen India's food policies'

New Delhi, April 28: tiol Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chairperson H.L.Dattu said on Thursday the country’s food policies need to be strengthened to make them more affective. “There are several food schemes such as the ‘Antodaya Yoj’ and many others like this. There has been no dearth in the number of policies and programmes in food issues. However, the question can be raised on the affectiveness of the programmes,” said Dattu. He was speaking at the tiol conference in Rights to Food organised by the Commission. Dattu said that it was the Supreme Court that has emphasised on the appointment of commissioners and other officials to look after the food issues in the country, which has improved the situation and proper implementation of the rights to food in many of the states. “It was the SC that emphasised on appointment of food commissioners to look after the food issues in the country. This has helped in the implementation of Rights to food in many states of the country, “ added Dattu, who is also the former Chief Justice of India. (IANS)
