Negligence of NRC Duty: Officers Face Suspension

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Negligence of duty in a responsible task like NRC update! Based on reports from the NRC authority, the State Home and Political Department has recommended immediate suspension of five government officials appointed as disposing officers for hearing of claims and objections in the NRC update work. The department has also recommended initiation of departmental proceedings (DPs) against the five officials.

All claims and objections in the NRC update work are heard by the disposing officers. The task of NRC update, being done under the supervision of the Supreme Court of India, in essence, does not have any room for negligence. However, the NRC authority found negligence on the part of a few officials engaged on NRC duty as disposing officers. The NRC authority had issued show cause notices to the five officials, but found their replies not satisfactory.

Based on reports from the NRC authority, the State Home and Political Department has recommended immediate suspension of Palasbari Town Committee’s assistant engineer Prafulla Kumar Sarma, Katlicherra veterinary officer Dr. Nilomoni Deb Goswami, Agomoni (Dhubri) fishery extension officer Brajen Kumar Oja, Under Secretary to the Government of Assam (PWD-road and national highway) Abdul Kader and assistant professor of West Goalpara College Ekramul Hussain. The Home and Political Department has also sought departmental proceedings against them.
