Nehru Yuva Kendra's youth conclave in Silchar

SILCHAR, Jan 19: Nehru Yuva Kendra, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, is going to organize a youth conclave as per the directions of the Ministry in six places of the state including Silchar, gaon, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Bongaigaon and Guwahati. The opening ceremony will be held in Silchar on January 21 on Town Club ground here. It was informed by the members to media-persons in a press-meet held the office of the Kendra here today.

Dinesh Pratap Singh, member of the Board of Governors, Nehru Yuva Kendra, said the theme of the conclave is ‘skilled youth, empowered Assam’. The main objective of the youth conclave is to raise awareness among the youth about the developmental initiatives being taken up by the Central Government in the region and the country for youth and other margil sections of the society and make them a part of progress in tion building.

Sarbanda Sonowal, Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs for State, will be the chief-guest on the occasion. The conclave will include discussions with leading citizens and resource persons of the country. Representatives of four districts of Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi and Dima Hasao will participate in the conclave. Dinesh Pratap Singh said Nehru Yuva Kendra has a presence in 623 districts of the country and is among the largest youth organizations of the world.

 Dinesh Pratap Singh said earlier the organization is used to work for the welfare of rural youth between the age group of 15 to 35 years, but now the Centre has decided that the organization will work also for the welfare of the educated urban youth. Nehru Yuva Kendra will open skill and resource development centres across the country. Besides, a model youth club will be opened in Baras shortly. He added to say that the organization wants to harness the potential of the youth of this region which has been left neglected. Others present in the press-briefing included Swaswati Deb, Kalpa Ganguly, Shekhar Ranjan Deb and Mehbub Alam Laskar.
